The Box They Built for People Who Don't Fit Boxes

Neurodiversity was supposed to challenge labeling. Instead it created a new label — one that requires a doctor's signature to access and a medical institution to enforce. In this episode I argue that the concept traded scientific precision for social palatability, that its liberation rhetoric depends entirely on the medicalization it claims to reject, and that the "superpower" framing is both logically incoherent and quietly cruel to people for whom the reality is genuinely hard. The uncomfortable conclusion: the only thing that actually works can't be scaled, administered, or turned into policy. Which is exactly why it never gets implemented. Direct, uncomfortable, and probably not what you expected.
